Message of injectors dying.

What I stated HERE still stands to be my honest opinion.

In continuance, something that has occurred to me some time ago was that if you are running any ECU program that tends to run the engine heavily rich in high-load conditions, you are in effect, wearing the injectors out quicker because more fuel = longer injector pulsewidth = more wear on the injectors internal coil.

Granted, things are going to wear out regardless of if you run the car in safety boost all the time or if you are making 1000RWHP - you are just obviously going to get to the failure point of some component in shorter time as you make more power.

However, this is not a cut-and-dry rule. The example I gave above concerning A/F ratios contradicts this because when running a richer mixture, all other things being equal, that car is going to make a little less power, but it is also going to wear the injectors out quicker. The slightly lower power output is going to put less stress on the other parts of the engine, but that difference is going to be negligibly small, not to mention, it is power that you are seeking. You just would rather have the expensive supporting components (i.e. injectors) last as long as possible while making more power. Since the more significant wear effect while running richer mixtures is on the injectors, it is worth the effort to run less rich mixtures, make a little more power, and still be safe. The injectors will last a bit longer anyway.

I know the general gripe of replacing broken parts is commonly met with the phrase "its a chance to upgrade", which is definately a positive way to look at it, but not all parts for this car are going to be so easily obtained by such a wide variety of individuals with varying incomes. Injectors are not a cheap item to be so happy about having to replace - even people I know that have good money will still have a comment or two as to the price they are paying for 6 little silly fuel solenoids.

Just my $.02
